|Collection||IHS Institutional Archives|
|Year Range from||2012|
|Year Range to||2012|
This full color small poster format invitation is printed on coated paper for a glossy finish. Because of that, there was some slight smearing in the printing process, and the scrollwork ink has bled through to the back. It features a graphic of a chef holding a three-tier cake aloft on his right hand at the center bottom. The corners are filled in with gray scrollwork, and the Issaquah History Museums logo is at the center top. The text between the logo and the chef reads as follows: "ISSAQUAH HISTORY MUSEUMS/INVITES YOU TO CELEBRATE ITS/40TH ANNIVERSARY!/ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2012/11:00 AM TO 2:00 PM/ISSAQUAH DEPOT MUSEUM/150 First Avenue NE Issaquah, WA 98027//[in bold] free to the public | refreshments// lively program, vintage cake tasting,/dancing to live music, silent cake auction//please RSVP by October 5, 2012/425.392.3500 or email@example.com."
The "vintage" aspect of the cake tasting had to do with the collections tie-in of all of the recipes having been supplied from various cookbooks and recipe card collections in the IHM holdings. Volunteers and staff members baked from the recipes, each supplying two cakes. One of each pair of cakes was cut up for the attendees to sample. The other was put up for silent auction to raise money for the organization. Between the vintage recipes, the long-time American tradition of raising money through "cake walks," and a short talk about cake history delivered by Erica, it made for a fun social history event.
